PAB2010 will be taking place in Ottawa (Canada) at the National Arts Centre’s Fourth Stage, June 18-20, 2010.

Information on registration, programming and all that other great stuff will be published beginning in the fall.

Also, watch for audio of PAB09 to be published this summer on the Canadian Podcast Buffet.

It’s hard to believe that we’ve all scattered for another year.  PAB09 was incredible!!!

We’ll publish more about PAB09 in the coming weeks.  In the meantime we wanted to make sure that we published our thank you to the entire PAB community — participants, ambassadors, speakers, friends and sponsors — for making PAB09 a major success.  It’s astounding that we are all able to make each PAB better than the last.

PAB2010 will be taking place at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa.  We will be publishing more details after we’ve had a chance to digest everything that we learned, talked about and experienced this year.  Thank you to the Holiday Inn Kingston Waterfront, Baldwin Audio Visual, Kingston Thousand Islands Boat Cruise Company and all of the amazing local eateries (including Forno which we overwhelmed twice in each of the last three years), coffee shops, bars and stores for being a part of the PAB experience to date.

Hot off the… computer… we present to you the PAB09 program.  This PDF file includes a welcome letter, news about our Ambassador program, the schedule for the weekend, session summaries, a reminder about the annual group photo and information about Kingston.

In an effort to save trees, we will not be handing out printed copies of the program.  If you want a hard copy, please remember to print one out and bring it with you.

Don’t make lunch plans for Saturday.  Your PAB09 registration fee includes a buffet lunch of five prepared salads, domestic cheeses, veggies and dip, vegetable lasagna, honey-glazed chicken and steamed white and wild rice.  There’s also a fantastic dessert spread with fruit, cakes and pies.

Lunch will be served in the Roof Garden restaurant, down the hall from the main conference room.

We asked Valerie Hunter how her session, While You Weren’t Looking: From the Visible to the Audible, challenges prevailing thought.

I hope it helps raise the profile of audio description, helps people to consider when they might lean too heavily on visual media in presenting ideas and inspires people to think about what they can do verbally to help audio tell a story. I also hope to reinforce the notion that when we all listen to audio only, we are all essentially blind, so these matters are really about inclusion, which is a guiding principle of podcasting. This is not about addressing a niche.

I guess the session isn’t bringing out new thought, but rather thought that goes dormant sometimes. We assume that people see and hear the same things we do, but I learn over and over again (sometimes the hard way) that isn’t the case. It’s not just about sight and hearing, but perspective. So maybe the session will tweak some people to the fact there are these other considerations, but also conclude that while it’s important to remember them, when it comes to expressing our own perspective, there’s only so much we can do, and we can only do the best we can at the time.
