Accommodations

Don’t forget that the Holiday Inn Kingston Waterfront (the event hotel), is offering conference registrants a rate for the nights of June 22 and 23, 2007. The rate is CDN$155/night (2 double beds, no smoking) and goes under the name “Podcasters Across Borders“. You must book your room at the conference rate directly with the hotel before May 22, 2007.

If you are looking at saving money on accommodations and don’t mind a long walk or paying for two cab rides each day, Queen’s University Victoria Hall (residence) has allocated a block of rooms for conference attendees at a rate option. The options are:

  • single room $55.65 (+tax) incl. breakfast voucher
  • double room $70.00 (+tax) incl. 2 breakfast vouchers

For those of you that did not go last year, the Holiday Inn in Kingston is really nice, and situated right on the water. I just booked room for me and my students to go down to Toronto for a conference, and it is not in as nice a hotel and it is more than this rate here, it is a real bargain!

I never did make it to the event last year (I, in all honesty, didn’t know about it) but as a local, I’d highly recommend that if you afford the extra bucks to stay there, you do so.

In addition to being home to the event, and right beside the Merchant for the afterparties (WAY within crawling distance if need be) it’s, as Dave mentioned, right on the water, and in the heart of the historic Downtown core, near some awesome restaurants and stores, the first capital building, and just 2 blocks away from Ontario’s (And I want to say Canada’s) oldest brew pub.

For the location, and convenience, it’s well worth the price.

The hotel is really nice but if money is tight, the residences at Queen’s are a great option. I’m a Queen’s alumni who worked in the residences while I was a student. The walk from Victoria Hall to the Holiday Inn is probably 15 minutes at most, so it’s quite convenient.

For $55.00 Queens is a great place to stay. Last year we stayed there and had great meals and the walk wasn’t that far…but we drove most days. :)
