First wave of confirmed speakers for PAB2008

We are pleased to announce the first wave of confirmed speakers and topics for PAB2008.

Tristan Homer, Producer and Videographer for the soon-to-return Jim Dupree: Enthusiast video podcast, will present a session called An Introduction to Video Craft. The session will focus on skills of the craft such as setting up a shot and editing, and will identify the importance of elements such as shot composition, b-roll and transitioning.

Tim Coyne, Producer and Host of The Hollywood Podcast, will share some of his skills and experience as an actor, script writer and storyteller to identify ways in which to engage your listener. The goal of his talk to is make you think differently about how you produce your own podcasts.

Nora Young and Dan Misener, Producers and Personalities of CBC Radio’s Spark, will use Spark as a case study in their session What Public Broadcasters Can Learn from Podcasters, and Vice-Versa. Dan and Nora will cover:

  • Matching form and content - using the tools of web 2.0 to talk about web 2.0
  • Showing your seams to break down the ficton of radio — it’s neither live nor perfect
  • Planning your show to create a conversation before, during, and after release
  • Beyond show notes — posting raw audio to add value and subscribers to your blog
  • Crowdsourcing content with blogs and wikis
  • Using Creative Commons music to make your show both pod-and-broadcast safe

We are accepting speaking proposals for PAB2008 until March 1, 2008. Submissions that will be given the most weight are those that present unique skills, challenge new media producers to think beyond current norms and propose ideas on where the media may be going. Sessions can focus on both soft and technical skills for both audio and video productions.

Presenters are given free registration to PAB2008, though they are responsible for their own travel and accommodations.

If you are interested in being part of the speaking program at this year’s event, please submit a typewritten proposal of 150 words, or an audio or video proposal of two-minutes or less to podcastersacrossborders@gmail.com.

PAB2008 early registration announced

PAB2008 badge (150)Mark your calendar! Early registration for PAB2008, the third annual Podcasters Across Borders conference, will be taking place for one week only… Sunday, January 27 through Saturday, February 2.

PAB2008 is happening June 20-22, 2008 in Kingston, Ontario (Canada). Your registration includes three days of workshops and sessions, social events, a hot and cold buffet lunch (including vegan selections), a boat cruise and more. Even though conference space is limited to 160 people, Kingston is a great family-oriented town and an increasing number of PABbers are bringing their partners and children along for a vacation. As such, the boat cruise is open to PAB families.

Early registration is your one chance to take advantage of the special rate of CDN$90. During the week of January 27 through February 2 you will be able to use the online registration tool to guide you through the registration process and then submit payment. Paypal is our preferred method and guarantees that you will have a seat at PAB2008. If you would rather pay by cheque, details will be available on the payment screen.

Information on previous conferences is available on the Previous PABs webpage. From there, you can view a summary of attendees and speaking sessions. There is also a catalog of (freely available) recorded sessions from PAB2006 and PAB2007.
