Do organizers qualify for giveaways?

Zoom H4In addition to some great vendor-provided technology, we will be giving away two Zoom H4 portable digital recorders during PAB2008.

Last year the community had a discussion and agreed that all PABsters qualified for the draws — participants, speakers and sponsors. We don’t remember any talk about the organizers. This led to the question: do organizers qualify for the draws (after all, we don’t get paid or keep any of the money)?

What do you think? Do organizers qualify?

    I think yes. It’s pretty informal and I know and trust you guys to be honest and fair. I’m guessing all your responses will be the same as “we” all know you too but for someone outside looking in they would say no.

    Thanks, Bill. Bob and I talked about this last night and agreed that if we qualify for the draw, someone else would have to do the actual drawing. It would be pretty suspect if we qualified, drew and won.

    Not what you fellas want to hear but I think you’ll ultimately get more joy out of seeing someone else win the drawing.

    Also, this group of people all know that you two work your asses off to put this thing together. The group will respect you even more, I think, if you hook someone up who made the trip.

    I think the organizers SHOULD qualify for the draw….but if they win then they owe the house a round of beers. See? Win-Win.

    Knowing how hard you guys worked on this (and the fact that you two take on the risks going with such an event) I think you should be eligible! How could it be otherwise?

    I already own a Zoom H4, so I promise I’m being objective when I say - no. The organizers should not qualify. As Tim says, you’ll ultimately get more joy out of seeing someone else win the drawing.

    This is a very small group, so it may be different, but in all of the Podcamp drawings we’ve done, I have strongly encouraged all organizers NOT to participate (although we had an issue with one last year at Podcamp Philly) I just don’t like the presumption or appearance of self-dealing, and feel I’ll get another chance at another event, like PAB!

    Thanks for all of the input. We completely agree that we should not qualify for the draw and had that feeling before making this post. This was a test to see who really likes us. Some of you failed. Mwuhahahahahahahahaha!!!!!

    Just kidding.. Mark and I both felt we shouldn’t qualify, but in the spirit of openness put it to the community.
