26 hours left for speaking proposals

At the time of this post, there is just 26 hours left to submit your proposal to be a PAB speaker (deadline: 11:59pmET January 31, 2009).  The theme for PAB2009 is Outside-in: Learning from beyond the fishbowl and was selected to evolve the conversation to draw on skills, communications styles, experiences, innovations and people from outside of the social media and new media communities.  We want our program to energize, motivate and advance the community. There are two styles of presentation that will be part of the program:

PAB PRESENTATION

A PAB Presentation is made up of a timed 25-minute session and timed 10-minute Q&A/discussion with the PAB community.  We ask that the speakers model their content and delivery of their sessions on the TED talks, focusing the subject matter and inspiring the audience.  Presentations cannot be used to sell a product or service, or launch a business venture. Official speakers are given free registration to PAB2009, though they are responsible for their own travel and accommodations.

JOLT

JOLTs were first incorporated in PAB2008 and were wildly popular.  A JOLT is a timed 5-minute, slide-free session during which the speaker wakes-up the imaginations, brains and collective energy of the community.  Successful proposals will identify how you will present new ideas for innovation in content, production, tools, activities (real and virtual).  Remember to relate your talk to the theme. This is a chance for you to inspire others or make a pitch to collaborate to improve upon an existing idea or tool, or launch a new one.  JOLTs cannot be used to sell a product or service, or launch a business venture. They are meant to get people thinking, talking, connecting and collaborating.  JOLT speakers receive no compensation.

We are accepting proposals for PAB2009 until the end of day, January 31, 2009.

If you are interested in being part of the speaking program at PAB2009, please submit a written proposal of no more than 150 words or an audio or video proposal of two-minutes or less to podcastersacrossborders@gmail.com.  Your proposal must include contact information, a title, a summary of your session and your audio/visual requirements.

Jowi Taylor will kick-off PAB2009

Photo of Jowi Taylor and 6SN guitar by Doug NicholsonAward winning radio producer, writer and host, Jowi Taylor will be kicking off PAB2009.  This will be the first keynote presentation at Podcasters Across Borders since Shelagh Rogers opened our inaugural conference in 2006.

During his years with CBC Radio, Jowi hosted the long-running and multiple award-winning program “Global Village”. He was the host, writer, co-creator and co-producer of the incredible documentary series The Wire — which won the 2005 Peabody Award, the 2005 Prix Italia and the 2005 Director’s Choice Award at the Third Coast Audio Festival — and the follow-up series, The Nerve: Music & the Human Experience, which aired on CBC Radio’s Inside the Music

In addition to his radio work, Jowi is the force behind Six String Nation, a project in which a guitar was made using 63 pieces of history and heritage from every part of Canada representing many different cultures, communities and characters from across the country. The guitar has traveled the country, being played in homes, bars, concert halls and at festivals by everyone from guitar hacks to well-known musicians including Bruce Cockburn, Colin James, Feist, Jane Siberry and The Mighty Popo.  Our very own PABster, Sean McGaughey, has also had the privilege to play the 6SN guitar.
